Chairman & Ecologist
Ethan McLaughlan

Ethan is the Founder and Chairman of Balcombe Ecological Society. Ethan, alongside Lauren Murray, formed BES back in 2024 for two reasons: to provide environmental education and to conserve local environments.
Ethan is an experienced field ecologist with expertise in birds, bats, and dormice. Ethan is currently developing his skills in newts and plants. He is working towards his hazel dormice and great crested newt level 1 licenses.
Ethan is employed as an Ecologist at RammSanderson and works seasonally. Alongside this, he studies A-Level Geology, Environmental Sciences, and Politics full-time.

Treasurer
Kayley McLaughlan

Kayley is the Treasurer for Balcombe Ecological Society. She joined the Society in June 2026.
Kayley works at Balcombe CofE School and is a Learning Support Assistant.
Kayley has an interest in the natural world, especially in butterflies.
